African American fashion is evolving into a new phase. Call it the Obama effect or Rosewood Movement, but lately there’s been a change across ┬áthe sartorial landscape. Men are replacing gold chains for bow ties. Instead of wearing white Jordans, guys are satisfied slipping on a pair of oxfords. The Brooklyn Circus and the gents at The Street Etiquette are major forces in creating this dapper change.

Nike. Adidas. Converse. For the past decades sneakers have been a staple in American fashion as much as white t-shirts and blue jeans. Just like apple pie, everyone in America had a pair and wore them with pride. The past couple of years have seen an influx of sneakers hitting our closets; partly because of the retro 80’s comeback and partly because the design aspect of creating “high fashion” sneakers have exploded. Although, sneakers will not be leaving the American mindset anytime soon there is a new revolution appearing in the way of dress shoes.

The word “dress shoe” brings to mind boring church services or never ending weddings, but this post is focusing on brogues and wingtips. Brogues are low heeled, leather bound shoes that originate from Ireland. They are often viewed as the country man’s shoes and are less formal than their counterpart: the oxford. Nonetheless compared to sneakers, they are screaming high-class. The colors are often limited to all black, a light chestnut color, and an almost chocolate brown. The name wingtips come from the “W” design that appears on the tip of some brogues.

Lacoste is by far one of my favorite brands, in terms of consistency. They have joined forces with La MJC to bring us a wonderful look into Broadwick shoes. Although clearly European, the shoes have a classic American appeal that set themselves apart.

There have been many words used to describe Muhammad Ali and no matter how many adjectives are used, the one that is always spoken and always remembered is ‘The Greatest‘. What many fail to see when looking at Muhammad Ali was his leadership in the civil rights movement.

Since 1994 the British shoemaker company, Loake, has been creating quality footwear for dapper men alike. This year Loake has created another exceptional line of wingtip brogues. They come in two styles: the cowhide colored and the patent leather version in black.

I just finished reading Chronicles: Volume One by Bob Dylan. The funny thing about this feat is that I’ve had this book for about 3 to 4 years. Throughout that time I kept picking it up with the intentions of finishing it, but usually another task interfered with the readings and the book would fall somewhere in the shadows.
