It’s hard to think about the thrills of sunshine and warmth, as each day adds on another layer of clothing to our crisp white tees, but Rye Rye rewinds us back to the pleasures of only a month ago with her video for “Sunshine”. The first single from her upcoming album Go! Pop! Bang! is a laid back as a summer day. Miss Fuck-Google-Ask-Me (aka M.I.A.) hook is reminiscent to the good ol’ Arular days of 2004. The star of the show, though is Rye Rye. The Baltimore rapper is here for a gold time, interchanging from a platinum blond wig to her natural cropped hair cut while, as she raps about snatching unsuspecting boys from their hater girls.

When I first heard Cee Lo Green’s “Fuck You”, I thought to myself that “hand’s down this is the best song of 2010 and nothing this year would be able to top this.” I was wrong. Something did top it. The “Fuck You” video.

It’s heartwarming to watch the journey of little Cee Lo to College Cee-Lo trying to get “the Heartbreaker”, but in the end failing miserably. On the bright side, after it’s all over little Cee-Lo turns into a Lady Killer and has more than enough money to buy as many girls as he wants to. That was the moral of the story…right?

When I first took a look at Big Sean,  I was immediately a hater. I didn’t know much about the Detroit raised MC except that he had signed to Kanye’s G.O.O.D. music label and was slated to be the next Kid Cudi. Even though I had drunk a good pitcher of Haterade, I would still give him a chance by downloading a couple of songs and seeing what I liked.

Nowadays people say that Twitter is the new Facebook. Not long before that Facebook was the new Myspace. This evolution of social networking hierarchy took place in less than 5 years. Those who grew up in the myspace age remembers how your page was a window into what made you click. You would create lists debating whether or not you enjoyed McDonalds or Burger King, you posted pictures that you took in your bathroom and showcased it for the world to see and you had the option to personalize your myspace with backgrounds of your favorite musical artist or maybe just glitter. Those were the days when social networking was young and naive. The glory days.

Artists, like M.I.A., would used myspace as a launching board to start their careers. In her single “XXXO”, Maya, is paying homage to the initial social networking sight with cheesy glitter effects, prancing unicorns, and all. Although the video has many effects going on, M.I.A. is distant just like social networking was supposedly supposed to do with humans.

A few days ago Kanye West announced via his Twitter that a “portrait” for his single “Power” would be released on MTV after Jersey Shore. Many thought Kanye was just being Kanye in the way he described, what most thought was just a music video, it as a portrait. We were soon to discover that he was pretty accurate. The portrait for Power, is just that, a moving painting. It begins with a close up of the man of the hour with his eyes piercing through the screen. As the camera pulls back we see that he is surrounded by warriors and toga clothed women adorning him as he stands perfectly still.

Creatively, I don’t think there has been a video anywhere as interesting as this. Although, there is a slight religious undertone, one forgets about it because of the spectacles all around. It seems that Kanye is announcing that even it looks like everything around him is falling apart, he is not shaken. He’s still standing.

Congratulations. What is there to say about that album. Was it good? Was it bad? Did I like MGMT’s last album so much that I forced myself to listen to Congratulations 20+ times in order for me to like it? Or was it truly an album that had to grow on you? Whatever the reason MGMT’s video for “It’s Working” is here.

I don’t think I have the patience to paint 2000 stills for a video, but that’s why my name isn’t Irina Dakeva. Irina directed the video and painted each watercolor until this amazing final product was revealed. The musical artist, BREAKBOT, is signed to Ed Banger Records who have signed artists such as Justice, Uffie, and Mr. Flash, so you know the music is good.
