What is art? Who is in charge of calling a piece of artwork distasteful or great? These are the kind of questions that arrive when viewing these photos by Julia Chesky. Here are a few words that accompanied the following images:

“Our lovely model, Chris, has lived on Mercer Street for a few decades by choice. I’m calling this series The Original Hipster because on most days he doesn’t even look like he’s truly homeless.“

Some people may view that Julia Chesky is exploiting the homeless model, but one thing to note is that Chris did agree to be shot by the photographer, so does that make it better?
